Eastbourne Triathlon 2026
I did the Eastbourne Triathlon again this year on 12 July, competing in the Standard Aquathlon race.
Unfortunately it was again so windy on the race day, with forecast showing force 6, not much different from two years ago when the swim was cancelled. However, this year it was wind with tide, therefore the organiser activated a backup plan to shorten the swim to a 750 m down the wind and tide, so we walked to the pier to start to swim leg.
Although the swim was saved, the shortened course also meant that my strong (by triathlon standard) swim performance became immaterial to the race result. My fitness deteriorated so much last year due to work pressure and the lack of training motivation. There were 13 competitors overall, and I was the 5th out of the water (2nd for Open), 10 minutes and 16 seconds compared to 8 minutes and 6 seconds for the fastest swimmer. I also had a fast T1 as well, just 21 seconds slower than the fastest. Unfortunately the overall race result was totally determined by the run performance again, like 2 years ago, and I lost my medal position during that, taking 58 minutes and 31 seconds to run 10 km, nearly 8 minutes slower than 2 years ago. My result was 1:12:45, the 4th in Open with 3 medal positions, 2 minutes 17 seconds outside the stand, and the 7th overall, with the first 7 overall finishers in the same order as their run legs.
